Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium apples
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon black food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional, for dipping)
Instructions
- Begin by washing the apples and removing the stems. Insert sticks into the top of each apple.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, continue cooking until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in black food coloring and vanilla extract.
- Dip each apple into the candy mixture, ensuring it is fully coated, and allow excess to drip off.
- For an extra touch, dip the apples in melted chocolate after the candy coating has set.
- Let the apples cool on a wax paper-lined tray until fully set.
Notes
- Ensure the apples are dry before dipping to help the candy adhere better.
- Feel free to decorate the apples with sprinkles or edible glitter for an even spookier effect.
