Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
- 2 cups Gruyere cheese, grated
- 1 large onion, caramelized
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Thinly slice the potatoes and layer them in the dish.
- Sprinkle half of the caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese over the potatoes.
- In a bowl, mix heavy cream, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the potato layers.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, onions, and Gruyere.
- Pour the remaining cream mixture on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
- Let the dish cool slightly before serving for easier slicing.
- Can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven.
