Creamy Gruyere and Caramelized Onion Scalloped Potatoes Delight

A rich and creamy dish featuring layers of thinly sliced potatoes graced with Gruyere cheese and sweet caramelized onions.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 2 cups Gruyere cheese, grated
  • 1 large onion, caramelized
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Thinly slice the potatoes and layer them in the dish.
  4. Sprinkle half of the caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese over the potatoes.
  5. In a bowl, mix heavy cream, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  6. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potato layers.
  7. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, onions, and Gruyere.
  8. Pour the remaining cream mixture on top.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • Let the dish cool slightly before serving for easier slicing.
  • Can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven.
