Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together.
  2. Add warm water gradually and knead until the dough is smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. Cut into squares or triangles.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  7. Fry the pieces of dough until they puff up and turn golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  8. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve warm with honey or syrup.

Notes

  • For a sweeter treat, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  • These can also be served as a dessert with ice cream.
