- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once it reaches 260°F (hard ball stage), remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and food coloring if desired.
- Pour the mixture onto a greased marble slab or countertop and let it cool for a few minutes.
- When cool enough to handle, begin to stretch and knead the taffy until shiny and smooth.
- Form into rolls and wrap in wax paper.
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer to ensure accurate temperature reading.
- Be careful handling the hot candy to avoid burns.
