- 1 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
- Add flour and kosher salt to the yeast mixture, mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Divide the dough into pieces, flatten each, and place a piece of mozzarella in the center, folding the dough over the cheese.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds before placing on a baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
