Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 2 ⅓ cups (291g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Optional: food coloring, sprinkles, melted chocolate for decoration

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line baking sheets with silicone mats or use ungreased metal sheets.
  • In a bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy (about 2 minutes).
  • Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix until combined.
  • Gradually mix in flour and salt on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  • Load dough into a cookie press, choose a disc, and press onto the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 7–9 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool for 5 minutes on the sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Decorate as desired with chocolate, sprinkles, or sanding sugar.

Notes

  • Dough too soft? Chill for 10–15 minutes.
  • No cookie press? Use a piping bag with a star tip.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
