- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and brown the chicken pieces.
- Remove chicken and set aside. In the same pot, sauté onion and garlic until softened.
- Add cumin, cinnamon, oregano, and chili powder; stir well.
- Return chicken to the pot, add chicken broth, and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Stir in chopped chocolate, salt, pepper, and sugar; mix until chocolate is melted.
- Cook for an additional 10 minutes and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add more chili powder or fresh chilies.
- Serve with rice or tortillas for a complete meal.
