  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. For the caramel icing, melt brown sugar and butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then stir in heavy cream.
  10. Let it boil for a minute, then remove from heat and add vanilla.
  11. Once the cake is cooled, pour the icing over the cake.
