Ingredients
– 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
– 1 small onion, diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon tomato paste
– 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
– 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
– 1 cup beef broth
– 2 cups uncooked pasta (e.g., elbow macaroni)
– 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
– Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with diced onion and garlic. Drain any excess fat.
3. Stir in tomato paste, ketchup (if using), diced tomatoes, and beef broth. Bring to a gentle simmer.
4. Add uncooked pasta. Cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta begins to soften.
5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Top evenly with shredded cheddar cheese.
7. Bake for about 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
– You can top the casserole with pickles, diced tomatoes, or shredded lettuce after baking to mimic a classic cheeseburger.
– Adjust the seasoning (salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard) to suit your taste preferences.
– Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
