Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef with the chopped onion and minced garlic until browned.
  2. Layer half of the cabbage in the bottom of the crockpot.
  3. Add half of the cooked meat mixture on top of the cabbage.
  4. Layer half of the uncooked rice and half of the diced tomatoes.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, meat, rice, and tomatoes.
  6. Pour tomato sauce and beef broth over the top.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the rice is tender and the cabbage is cooked through.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try using a mix of ground beef and sausage.
  • This dish can also be made with brown rice for a healthier option.
