  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Mix in the sour cream until well blended. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples and walnuts if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Serve as is or top with powdered sugar or your favorite frosting.

Notes

  • For added richness, you can substitute half of the sour cream with Greek yogurt.
