Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 6 tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, to dot

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture forms a ball.
  4. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out the dough and fit it into a pie pan.
  7. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  8. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot with butter.
  9. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter pie, add more brown sugar.
  • Serve with ice cream for an extra treat.
